SXSW BBN R5 - Tacocat vs. East Cameron Folklore

We are in round five with only seven more initial competitions to go before we've made it through all the bands up for SXSW Best Band Name.

Tacocat
Surf Rock / Punk
"Crimson Wave"
Wow. The most popular song by Tacocat is about menstruation. Srsly? It's catchy, I'll give you that. Nice harmonies and easy up and down the scale chord transition. This would be something to bop along to at a girly sleepover. It's like a weirdly feminist Beach Boys, but better.

East Cameron Folklore
Rock / Punk
"Sheep"
In the vein of Rise Against, this motley band appears to be focused on social and political consciousness. There must be easily be six members as I hear brass (trumpet and trombone) along with drums, guitar, piano and more. Where Rise Against gets it right, this song doesn't have the driving tempo that builds to a crescendo making one feel part of the movement. The melancholy death refrain brings me down instead of building me up. Am slightly reminded of "House of the Rising Sun".

Winner? Tacocat.
